Salt Free Spike Seasoning is a great product for everyone who loves the flavor of regular Spike Seasoning but doesn’t want so much sodium. And adding Salt Free Spike Seasoning to a savory recipe will give the same flavor boost that makes me love original Spike!

Salt Free Spike Seasoning is simply a version of Spike Seasoning that doesn’t have added salt! Most people who are following this website have probably noticed my love of Spike Seasoning, right? It’s by far my most-used spice blend and something I use and love for the way it adds a flavor boost to nearly all my savory recipes!
Spike Seasoning has been sold for over 50 years, and I’ve been a fan of it for many, many years, even long before I became a food blogger! And it’s one of the first food products I spotlighted on the blog when I first started recommending Kalyn’s Kitchen Picks!
Why do I love Spike Seasoning so much?
Original Spike Seasoning is a blend of 39 herbs and spices that I think adds the perfect extra boost of flavor to all kinds of savory dishes! I use Spike regularly in egg dishes, salads and salad dressings, stews and soups, marinades, roasted vegetables, and casseroles. If you enter “Spike Seasoning” into the search bar on Kalyn’s Kitchen you can find literally hundreds of recipes where I’ve used it.
Through the years I’ve had so many people tell me how much they also love the extra bit of flavor they get from adding Spike to savory dishes. But I’ve also heard from people who were worried about the amount of sodium in Original Spike Seasoning.
How much sodium is in Original Spike Seasoning?
Salt Free Spike Seasoning has zero sodium of course. But Original Spike has 160 mg of sodium in 1/4 teaspoon (or 640 mg of sodium in one teaspoon.) That’s why I think that anyone who loves the added flavor from Original Spike but doesn’t want so much sodium is really going to love using Salt Free Spike Seasoning!
Where can you get Salt Free Spike Seasoning?
Original Spike and Salt Free Spike are both a blend of dried herbs and spices that was created by Gayelord Hauser and are made by Modern Products. For many years I could find the Original Spike and other products from that company at my local Kroger store. But Kroger stopped carrying it in Utah and now I buy Salt Free Spike Seasoning (affiliate link) and Spike Seasoning (affiliate link) at Amazon.com.
I do sometimes have people tell me they can find the Spike Seasoning products at natural grocery stores, and if you want to look for it at that type of store or in your regular grocery store it will often be found in the nutrition or health foods section rather than by the spices.
Another product I love from the makers of Spike Seasoning:
The same company that makes Spike Seasoning and Salt Free Spike Seasoning also makes Vege-Sal (affiliate link), which is a vegetable and salt seasoning blend that’s used as a lower-sodium replacement for table salt. Vege-Sal has 1440 mg. of sodium in one teaspoon, compared to 2115 mg. sodium in one teaspoon of regular table salt. That may still be too high in sodium for people who are strictly limiting salt, but Vege-Sal is a good option for people who can have salt but just want to limit it.
One thing I don’t like about Vege-Sal is how the bottle has the word SPIKE in large letters on the front, which I think can make it confusing! But this salt replacement product is something I learned to love from my Grandma Denny and I’ve featured it on the blog and maybe used it even longer than I’ve used Spike!
