A spectacular mix of smoky, earthy, and umami — mushrooms can be a bit of an acquired taste, but those who appreciate them know there’s much more to them than meets the eye. Cooking with mushrooms is always enjoyable because there’s just so much you can do with it. Regardless of the kind of mushroom you’re using, you can enjoy these fungi friends in a wide array of recipes. For most of you, you’re probably on the lookout for something easy that you can replicate at home with no problem. Lucky for you, I have just the recipe with this delicious garlic mushroom treat!

If you need a new kind of side dish — or even a healthy, lighter main course — this garlic mushroom recipe is certainly for you. It has all the charm of mushrooms paired with a rich, buttery, and savory sauce. And once you combine it with your nutty and distinct garlic slices, you’ll never want mushrooms a different way again! With how incredibly simple this recipe is, you’ll get to enjoy garlic mushroom in no time!

Garlic Mushroom vs. Stuffed Mushroom

As we mentioned earlier, you can cook mushrooms in a variety of ways. From appetizers to main courses, this ingredient is versatile in the kitchen — making it unsurprisingly beloved, too. One of the best ways you can cook mushrooms, and one of my personal favorite appetizers, are these tasty and filling stuffed mushrooms! These tiny treats are a great way to start off any meal, and utilize your mushrooms in the best way possible, too.

This garlic mushroom recipe is another way of highlighting everything you love about mushrooms. Instead of stuffing them with cheese, garlic, and Parmesan, our recipe today involves simply sautéing our mushrooms in a mix of garlic, butter, oil, and other herbs! The result is a very rich and savory dish that you can easily pop into your mouth, resulting in a burst and delicious mix of garlicky, buttery, and smoky flavors. Although garlic mushroom may seem to be made up of simpler components, its flavor is definitely no less impactful than that of your stuffed mushrooms.

Other Mushroom Recipes

Fried Mushrooms

If it’s a tasty finger food you’re after, you’ll definitely find it in this delectable fried mushroom recipe! Where your garlic mushroom involves sautéing your meal in a scrumptious butter-garlic-olive oil marinade, this fried mushroom recipe entails — you guessed it — deep frying your mushrooms until golden brown and insanely crispy. Upon your first bite, you get an addictively crispy exterior that gives way to a tender inside, thanks to the addictive texture of the mushrooms you use. Dip it in ranch dressing, and you’ll find you won’t be able to get enough of it!

Creamy Mushroom Chicken

Mushroom and chicken are a well-known and well-loved combination. And this creamy mushroom chicken is a prime example as to why! In this dish, button mushrooms go hand in hand with a tender chicken in a sauce that is creamy, decadent, and simply irresistible. The mix of long green beans as well helps cut through the indulgent flavors due in large part to the all purpose cream. Creamy mushroom chicken is a great hearty main, and pairs well with a number of different side dishes! But most of all, it’s a testament to how well mushrooms go with pretty much anything!

Creamy Pasta Carbonara

Is it pasta you’re craving today? There’s no better and more comforting option than the rich, saucy creamy pasta carbonara! Recognizable instantly from its white sauce, this pasta is as creamy as it looks. With a combination of smoky bacon or ham and earthy, umami, mushrooms, each bite is more perfect than the last.

How to Cook Garlic Mushroom

Sauté your garlic and mushrooms

In making your garlic mushroom recipe, we start with sautéing the two star ingredients of the show! After melting enough butter in a pan (I use about three tablespoons), add a tablespoon of olive oil. Once you’ve melted the butter completely and the bubbling subsides, add your 5 cloves of garlic. Sauté until the garlic turns light brown. From the beginning you’ll already notice just how fragrant and delicious your dish smells. The combination of butter and garlic is a pairing for the ages, and a whiff of that dynamic duo never fails.

The next step would be to add your onion. Once they soften, you can add the mushrooms! Cook for about a minute while stirring and incorporating that butter-garlic mixture into your components.

Add your sauce.

Making the sauce for this garlic mushroom treat is much easier than you’d expect. Simply add a teaspoon of Knorr Liquid Seasoning, then pour in 2 ounces of dry white wine. Add a teaspoon of thyme as well, for an extra earthy and herby layer of flavor. Cook your garlic mushroom concoction until you’ve reduced the wine to about a quarter.

Season and serve!

With how divine that dish smells, I suppose you can’t wait to dig in at this point, right? Worry not; your garlic mushroom dish is almost ready! The last step in this easy sequence of instructions? Simply season your dish with salt and pepper to taste, and add chopped parsley. And with that, your meal is ready to be enjoyed!

Turn the heat off the stove and transfer your garlic mushroom to a serving bowl. Whether preparing it with another dish or on its own with plentiful servings of rice, it’s now ready to be enjoyed!

Garlic Mushroom Additional and Alternative Ingredients

Making this garlic mushroom recipe is insanely easy. But if you want to swap out or add additional ingredients, you can definitely do so!

  • In this recipe, we use button mushrooms, which are some of the easiest to spot in any supermarket. However, whatever kind of mushroom you use will work just as well. Cremini mushrooms, portobello mushrooms, and even oyster mushrooms will still make for an equally delicious dish.
  • You can also add more herbs and spices to give your garlic mushroom more flavor. From oregano to basil to even rosemary, these plants will breathe more life and depth into this simple but scrumptious meal.
  • Lastly, if you’re looking for extra creaminess, it should come as no surprise that cream is the key! Use all-purpose cream or even milk to make your garlic mushroom dish taste sweeter. Surely, kids will find this option more appetizing.
