Christmas Cherry Bars

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
Combine the flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
Spread 3 cups of batter into the prepared pan. Spread the cherry pie filling over the batter.
Drop the remaining batter by teaspoonfuls over the filling.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Cool on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired
