Amish Baked Custard

Ingredients:

4 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups whole milk, heated until warm
Ground cinnamon for topping
Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, beat the eggs slightly.

Add sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Mix well.
Slowly stir in the warm milk until well combined.
Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle the top lightly with ground cinnamon.
Place the casserole dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with about 1-inch of hot water to create a water bath.
Carefully place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
Remove the custard from the water bath and allow to cool slightly.
Serve warm or chilled, as desired.
