Ingredients for Air Fryer French Toast

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions

BREAD – We used Texas toast for our bread. Challah and Brioche are also popular options. You can even use regular white sandwich bread if you prefer. If you plan on using a thicker cut of bread, you will likely need to air fry for a smidge longer. Use your best judgment and check for doneness at the 6-minute mark.

MILK – 2% milk does the trick, but you can easily substitute with almond milk.

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast

  1. In a medium bowl whisk together, eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar.hand pouring maple syrup into French toast batter in a bowlwhisked French toast bread batter
  2. Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 370 F. Immediately spray basket with cooking spray.

CHEF TIP – You want the air fryer basket to be hot (hence preheating) when you place the bread in.

  3. Place a slice of bread into the egg mixture and turn to coat both sides. Lift out of the mixture and allow the excess to drip off, then place in hot air fryer basket. Repeat for a second bread slice. You will need to work in batches.

CHEF TIP – We only cooked two slices at a time because you want there to be room around the slices for the hot air to get around. This ensures the French toast will cook properly.

  4. Air fry at 370 F for 6 minutes. Immediately remove slices from the air fryer as they may stick to the basket if left in too long. Move to a wire rack and cover to keep warm while making the other slices.Cooked French toast in air fryer basket

Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips

How do you store leftovers?

Store leftover French toast in an air-tight container kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer, toaster oven, or on a baking tray in a 350F oven until warmed through.

Can you freeze air fryer french toast?

Yes! I would recommend pre-cooking the French toast before freezing. Allow the French toast to fully cool before transferring to a large ziptop bag labeled with the date. Freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, place the frozen French toast on a baking tray and warm it in the oven set to 400F for around 7-8 minutes OR simply pop the slices into a toaster or toaster oven.

Can I cut the French toast into sticks?

Yes, you can slice the toast into sticks if that’s how you prefer them! Check the sticks closer to 4 minutes in the air fryer, as they are smaller and may cook quicker. Do not crowd the air fryer basket, allow room around each stick for air circulation.
